Where To Stay
Choosing where to stay all depends on the type of holiday you want. Are
you craving guaranteed sunshine? Do you need to keep the kids happy too?
Is golf your number 1 priority? There really is something for everybody,
so check out our tips and get whatever you want from your holiday.
Golf Resorts
If your idea of a beautiful view is to look out over the 5th green, then
go no further. Planned with the golf enthusiast in mind, we have a range
of destinations offering hotels on or near the golf course. Some even offer
free golf to really get your stay off to a great start.
If it’s Portugal you fancy,
then Lisbon, the Central
Algarve and the Western
Algarve come up trumps. The Marriott
Hotel, on the Lisbon coast near Obidos, boasts views of either the sea
or the Praia d’el Rey golf course. In the Algarve, Le
Meridien Penina, the Sheraton
Algarve, and Vila Sol Spa and
Golf Resort are minutes from internationally renowned golf courses.
On the Spanish side of the border, in the Costa
de La Luz, the El Rompido
nestles alongside its own 18 hole course and the Puerto
Antilla Grand is only a short drive from the Islantilla golf course.
The Costa Del Sol has everything
you would expect from a well developed resort, including some outstanding
golf courses. La Cala Resort
is literally surrounded by La Cala North and La Cala South courses, while
the San Roque Club is home to
the great Seve Ballesteros – need we say more? The Almenara
Golf Hotel & Spa is part of the Sotogrande estate, which boasts
a total of 5 golf courses.
A Family affair
If you have little ones who need to be entertained, then there are hotels
with great facilities for all the family, meaning you can tee off safe in
the knowledge that cries of “I’m booored” are a thing
of the past. In the Algarve, both Le
Meridien Penina and Dona Filipa
hotels offer the Penguin club for kids and plenty of water sports and activities.
Alternatively, the Atalaya Park
in the Costa Del Sol has both a children's club and a veritable plethora
of sports activities to keep everyone busy.
For the non golfer
Difficult though it may be for some of us to understand, some people just
aren't that interested in golf. No problem - there are plenty of great hotels
situated in areas with a whole lot more to offer than golf. Cyprus
is filled with history, elegant architecture and, of course, beautiful beaches.
The Lisbon coast is a cosmopolitan
area that still retains much of its traditional charm and has some stunning
scenery. Try a wander through the narrow winding streets of Cascais, a day
out up in the mountains at the medieval walled city of Sintra, or a good
old-fashioned shopping session in Lisbon itself. Moving East, Turkey
is home to the amazing Kursunlu waterfalls, Aspendos (one of the most well
preserved Roman theatres in the world) and a host of mythical stories and
sites.
Of course, if you fancy going a bit further afield, then why not combine
some great golf with exotic safaris in South
Africa? Cape Town offers
loads of tourist attractions and all the benefits of a beach side city with
a great climate. However, if you want to fit in some animal spotting between
rounds, then head for the Garden
Route for whale-spotting, or Sun
City for fabulous resort facilities near a superb national park.
The quiet life
If you’re keen to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday
life and want somewhere to relax, then there are plenty of peaceful options.
To name but a few, the Hotel Inglaterra
on the Lisbon coast oozes Edwardian character and charm, while the Hotel
Aigua Blava on the Costa Brava has a cosy, welcoming feel to it. Casa
Velha, set high on a hill in Madeira, is a 5 star Relais & Chateaux
Country House Hotel and, in the Algarve, the Monte
D’Oiro and Costa D’Oiro
hotels are small and friendly.
Spoilt for choice
Many of our hotels are situated within easy driving distance of several
great courses, so here are just a few to whet your appetite. Vilamoura,
in the Central Algarve,
has 5 courses and a wide range of hotels to choose from. The Puerto Banus
region of the Costa del Sol
has a vast number of courses within easy reach, as do Fuengirola and Benalmadena.
Tenerife has four courses between
Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje (not to mention year round sunshine!), and
Paphos in Cyprus has a few nearby.
For something a little different, Turkey
is the up and coming option, with four fine courses within a 10km radius
in the Belek area.
Far flung shores
If you want to play golf but also go a bit farther afield, there are some
truly magnificent long haul options. Try a little slice of heaven on the
island paradise of Mauritius,
where unbelievable hotels sit near the beautiful Indian ocean and boast
championship golf courses. If it's great wine, lovely scenery and the thrill
of a game drive you’re after, then South Africa is the answer, and
a tailor-made golf tour will leave lasting memories. Generally regarded
as the golfing capital of the world, Myrtle
Beach in South Carolina is a golfer's dream. There’s a great selection
of accommodation on offer so you can put together your own holiday –
with our help of course. And finally, where on earth can you get sunshine,
great food, fabulous nightlife, amazing golf courses with reasonable green
fees and caddies for around £3? Thailand.
