Area Description
Tunisia is very much the up and coming golfing destination. It's an exciting
country which ranges from tree lined mountain ranges and vineyards in
the north, through warm, sandy beaches and friendly resorts on the central
coastline to the Sahara desert in the South.
There's a wonderful mix of East and West, old and new, with the stunning
old cobbled-street medina's filled with colourful bazaars and souks and
camel's strolling through the streets, to the modern marina's boasting
luxury yachts, bars, shops and cafes.
Port el Kantaoui is a man made resort built in the late 1970's and is
centred around a beautiful whitewashed marina covered in colourful bourganvilea.
It's a great spot for relaxing, sitting in a café in the sunshine,
enjoying a fresh juice and watching the world go by. There are two fantastic
golf courses in Kantaoui and Monastir is only a 35 minute drive away where
there are another two good golf clubs. Sousse, the third largest city
in Tunisia is only a 10 minute taxi ride away where you can explore the
wonderful old medina (walled city), shop in the soula centre or stroll
along the promenade.
Hammamet is a resort of two halves, about an hours drive from Monastir
and 45 minutes from Tunis. Old Hammamet is built around a charming medina
overlooking the sea, with quaint streets and courtyards and miles of sandy
beaches. Yasemine Hammamet is a purpose built resort, which also now boasts
a marina and more westernised facilities such as an ice rink and water
park. What's more the two areas are close by, so you can explore both
very easily. The golf in Hammamet is very good with both the Yasemine
and Citrus courses offering up a challenge for golfers of all abilities.
