Fairmont Orchid

The Resort

Slow the pace in divine style at the luxury Fairmont Orchid, where the working principles aim at the wellbeing and contentedness of every guest. This unique resort allows you to discover the incredible landscape and culture of Hawaii and the supreme hospitality of its people, while also playing some first class golf.

Spread across some 32 acres of the Big Island’s picture-postcard coastline and around a perfect white sandy lagoon, the Fairmont Orchid is a deluxe property that offers uncompromising levels of service and amenities, from its phenomenal spa to mouth-watering restaurants, plus the opportunity to take on the two phenomenal golf courses around Mauna Lani Bay. Expect Fairmont Orchid to live up to, and exceed, expectations of Hawaii’s incredible natural beauty, and the resort to be one of the very best in the United States.

Golf

Residents at the luxury Fairmont Orchid have the unique opportunity to play the two superb golf courses at the neighbouring Mauna Lani Resort. The North and South Courses hug the rocky coastline of the Big Island, and represent the best of Hawaiian golf, with prestigious past events including the Seniors Skins Game. Mauna Lani is visually stunning and perfectly prepared, providing a varied and truly beautiful golfing experience for any traveller opting for a five-star stay at the Fairmont Orchid.

South Course

Host of the Seniors Skins challenge throughout the 1990s, Mauna Lani’s South Course is carved into an incredible natural landscape; the prehistoric Kaniku lava flow deposited outcrops of rugged rocks formations, and it is between these that the championship layout is mapped. Many holes hug the ocean, with danger lurking alongside magnificent views, not least at the short 15th, which is among the world’s most spectacular and memorable holes.

North Course

Head to the North Course and you will tackle the quintessential Hawiian Big Island golf course, built on a lava bed that creates a visually stunning panorama. The lava borders many holes, with the natural rolling terrain also taking in mesquite forests before winding down to the shoreline. The championship North Course is arguably the more challenging of Mauna Lani’s pair, providing a stern par-72 test.

Bars and Restaurants

The rich variety and magnificent tropical surroundings of the resort make dining at the Fairmont Orchid a memorable experience. Highlights for many guests include the chance to dine with sand between the toes, or the sushi for which Hawaii is so famous, not to mention the sumptuous tropical cocktails to round off the day.

Hale Kai Restaurant

Head to Hale Kai and feel the warmth of Aloha by the beach, where relaxed afternoon and evening meals are served in a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.

Kahakai Bar Oceanfront

Meaning ‘beach’ in Hawaiian, Kahakai is a beachside retreat where sun-worshippers can escape the rays for a while under the thatched roof and savour a refreshing tropical cocktail with the incredible Mauna Kea landscape as the backdrop.

Gathering of the Kings

On Saturday evenings, head for the Plantation Estate and take in the Gathering of the Kings, a colourful performance designed to illustrate the story of the settlement of Samoa, Tahiti, New Zealand and Hawaii. Polynesian descendents perform a superb show, complemented by cuisine from each of the islands.

Brown’s Beach House

Drink in the incredible coastal views of the Big Island from Brown’s, the classic fine dining al fresco experience at Fairmont Orchid. Utilising lots of locally caught seafood, as well as the finest meat from the mainland, the menu shows off the best of Pacific Rim cuisine, while the sunset creates the ultimate setting.

Brown’s Deli

At the heart of the resort, guests can pop in to Brown’s Deli for snacks, breakfast and lunch, as well as edible souvenirs unique to the island, including Volcano Honey.

Luana Lounge

Part art gallery, part cocktail bar, the Luana Lounge is a unique retreat where fruity cocktails and an incredible dessert tapas menu are the highlights.

Norio’s Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar

Locals and resort guests alike flock to Norio’s for the best sushi on the island. Surrounding the koi pond, specialties at Norio’s include the Wagyu Rib Eye Steak and marinated Black Cod.

The Orchid Course

Rotating items and themes every three days, the breakfast at Orchid Court is a superb way to start your day, whether golf is on the agenda or not.

Spa

Truly unique among luxury golf and leisure resort destinations, The Spa Without Walls at Fairmont Orchid captures the special natural environment of the Big Island. Eight outdoor waterfall treatment huts are joined by six at the ocean’s edge, allowing spa guests to take in the sound of breaking waves, the beautiful flora and the gentle breezes while enjoying one of the trademark treatments.

Across the spa menu, the use of local elements, flowers and scents is important, evident in signature experiences such as the Kona Coffee exfoliation or the superb Awa Earth and Fire experience. Treatments aside, the spa allows guests to simply relax and enjoy the slow pace and gorgeous surroundings of the Hawaiian paradise.
