        The Resort

Boasting four 18-hole courses, including two top class championship layouts that rival anything in Florida resort golf, Innisbrook is a golfer’s paradise that punches well above its weight. The more heralded resorts around Orlando and Miami may attract the lion’s share of the attention, but this Tampa retreat, now upgraded with a phenomenal new spa facility and overhauled hotel, is a fine choice.

Annual host of the PGA Tour’s Transitions Championship, the Copperhead Course heads the list of Innisbrook’s golfing feast, and tackling it may necessitate a trip to the spectacular Indaba Spa. Superbly equipped and matched by spacious, well appointed accommodation, Innisbrook prides itself on outstanding service and ensuring a truly enjoyable guest experience.

        Golf

Innisbrook is a legendary presence in terms of Florida golf, with four courses whose varied style and difficulty help to explain why so many head for the luxury Tampa retreat. All four layouts were crafted by Lawrence Packard, with a bill headlined by the monumental Copperhead Course.

        Copperhead Course

Touted by many astute observers as a genuine contender to host a US Open, the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook is the annual host of the PGA Tour’s Transitions Championship. Stretching beyond 7,300 yards, the layout is demanding, a trait at odds with the tranquil, natural backdrop. Curtis Strange, one of American golf’s most prominent figures, famously stated that Copperhead would be his choice if he could play just one course for the rest of his life.

        Island Course

Often in the shadows of the much-lauded Copperhead, Innisbrook’s excellent Island Course is a heavyweight in its own right; not merely in length – it is the heavy side of 7,300 yards from the tips – but also in stature, having been ranked among America’s fifty best resort courses and hosted prestigious events including US Open qualifying and the NCAA Championships.

        North Course

The ‘mini-Copperhead’ may be stretching the comparison too far, but the North Course at Innisbrook has discernible similarities with its fearsome sibling, not least in terms of the terrain. Shaved by 1,000 yards and much more playable for the average golfer, the North is entertaining in abundance, with plenty of water and fantastic par-3s.

        South Course

More open and with flashes of links visible in its architectural style, the South Course is a rolling, at times treacherous, 6,600 yard journey that is washed by the warm breezes off the Gulf of Mexico. Expect water hazards, good fairway bunkering and, more importantly, a lovely round of resort golf.

        Rooms

While the collection of rooms and suites at Innisbrook is extensive, the range is spread across numerous small, low-rise units that create a welcome feeling of privacy and a laid-back atmosphere that will suit the discerning golf traveller.
