The Resort

Now a golden half-century old, the Doral Resort is synonymous with golf in Florida, boasting an astonishing 34,000 yards of championship golf that equate to no less than five revered courses. Located just a short drive from Miami, Doral, with its exclusive Marriott hotel and resort, offers guests a genuine south Florida experience, with a charming laid back atmosphere, superb dining and facilities.

The focal point remains, however, Doral’s colossal golfing landscape; the Great White and Jim McLean Signature courses are at the head of the undercard for the world-renowned Blue Monster Course, a championship layout strewn with water that has created some of the most exciting action on the PGA Tour in recent decades.

Golf

Doral is ultimately best known as a golfer’s destination, and is known to many thanks to its 45 years of presence on the PGA Tour. No less than five superb courses, with the iconic Blue Monster at the peak, form the spine of the luxury Miami golf resort, all of which are superbly conditioned and highly recommended.

TPC Blue Monster at Doral

Ranked highly among the most sought-after resort courses in the United States, the famous Blue Monster has been a fixture on the PGA Tour for close to fifty years. Long and treacherous, the Blue Monster – as its name suggests – is heavy on water, paired with stern bunkering and penal Bermuda rough. The layout is truly spectacular visually, and is a course that serious golfers must take on as part of their Doral experience.

Great White Course

This course, like its famous designed, is pretty unique. Greg Norman, the Australian who savoured considerable success as a player at Doral, mapped out the only course in the south eastern United States which is built on coquina. These crushed shells, which surround the fairways and greens, create a desert-style appearance that is exciting and demanding in equal measure.

Jim McLean Signature Course

As a coach and instructor, Jim McLean has been attached to Doral for many years, and his legacy is now consolidated by his Signature Course, which is viewed as the resort’s third premier layout. Tough yet also very appealing visually, the McLean Course is noted for the trio of hugely testing holes, beginning at the 13th and known locally as the ‘Bermuda Triangle.’

Gold Course

Although in the shade of Doral’s three leading courses, the Gold has considerable pedigree of its own; in 1999, it hosted the PGA Tour Q-School finals, and with a recent renovation is better than ever. The amendments were undertaken by Raymond Floyd, and with strategic bunkering and water a constant threat, the Gold comes highly recommended.

Red Course

Demanding accuracy and sound strategy above all else, the Red Course is a great foil for its long and challenging siblings at Doral. Host of the LPGA Tour’s Office Depot Championship event in 2001, the Red is most notable for having not one but two island greens, the 6th and 14th, both of which can turn a scorecard upside-down.

Mesazul Steakhouse

Newly renovated, Mesazul is the focal point of the dining experience at Doral. The Latin-inspired décor gives a nod to a menu packed with the unmistakable flavours of the American south west, matched by a wine list packed with South American and Spanish classics.

Champions Sports Bar & Grill

Golfers will naturally gravitate towards Champions, which is the perfect complement to Doral’s famous collection of courses, and where a cold beer awaits those brave enough to tackle the Blue Monster. Big screens show the major live sporting events while the menu is filled with clubhouse classics like hearty sandwiches and salads.

Bungalou’s Bar & Grill

In Miami the influence of the Caribbean is self-evident, and Bungalou’s is Doral’s best example, where the Florida sunshine is the ideal side dish for a light bite or frozen cocktail, all served poolside.

Bossa Nova Lounge

The newest of the bars and restaurants at Doral is Bossan Nova, where guests can savour freshly mixed cocktails and flavoursome tapas, not to mention the daily live Latin and Jazz music.

Cascades Bar

Located adjacent to the Spa’s outdoor pool, Cascades serves up all-natural juices and smoothies which complement the ethos and experience of the wellness centre itself.

Terrazza Restaurant & Café

A relaxed option for a cup of freshly brewed coffee or home-made bakery treats, Terrazza is a casual retreat that is open throughout the day.

Java Zone

Sandwiches, pastries and ice cream join signature Starbuck’s blend coffee at Doral’s very own coffee shop.

Spa

The multi-award winning Spa at Doral is now joined by the Pritikin Longevity Centre, one of the world’s most highly regarded wellness facilities. Guests taking the opportunity to indulge with a specialist treatment will have the opportunity to make use of the full spa complex, which includes indoor and outdoor swimming, private sundecks, a plunge pool and experience showers.

Scheduled classes include pilates, yoga and aqua aerobics, while the extensive treatment menu, including both body and facial experiences, is led by the signature Turkish Salt Scrub and Ayurvedic Therapies, which are influenced by the ancient East Indian techniques of health and healing.
