The Resort

A verdant oasis on the tip of the Baja Peninsula; this resort was built in 1956 as a 15-room luxury hideaway by Don Abelardo Rodriguez, son of the President of Mexico. Accessible only by yacht or private plane, its earliest guests included Hollywood celebrities like John Wayne, Bing Crosby, Lucille Ball, and the former United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower is also among the past guests; all attracted by the privacy of the resort as well as the region’s deep-sea fishing. The glamorous flavour and ambiance of the original resort were carefully preserved in One&Only Palmilla, which opened in February 2004 following a $90 million refurbishment.

This is a place where azure waters greet the mountainous desert and the Pacific Ocean merges with the Sea of Cortez. Where warm waves break onto a dramatic shoreline… and grey whales can be seen rising majestically in the distance. Here, the gracious style of Old Mexico - with its red-tiled roofs, whitewashed walls, and idyllic setting of exquisite fountains - is quietly nestled amidst swaying palms, bird of paradise and other tropical bloom.

Golf

Designers Don Koll and Jack Nicklaus set the scene for the creation of this unique blending of desert and sea, at one of the world’s truly picturesque golf destinations. Not surprisingly, Palmilla Golf Club has been rated as one of the top 100 in the world by Great Golf Resorts of the World.. From towering cacti and deep arroyos to breathtaking views of the Sea of Cortez, the signature Jack Nicklaus course offers challenges and delights.

There are three nines at Palmilla Golf Club -- Arroyo, Mountain and Ocean -- that you can play in various combinations of 18. The Arroyo and Mountain feature plenty of cacti and desert clear areas. The Mountain has a fifth hole that forces a golfer to clear not one but two canyons. All 27 holes offer stunning fairways of more than 7,000 yards, in any 18-hole combination. Five sets of staggered tee boxes, four lakes and deep shifts in elevation ensure golfers of every skill level a memorable and exciting game.

A golf shop located at the course offers an array of merchandise from logo practice balls to golf shirts and accessories. Rental equipment (featuring Callaway X-22 clubs) and professional lessons can also be arranged.
