The Resort
Built to host the 1983 Ryder Cup, the PGA National Resort, in Palm Beach Gardens on Florida’s stunning east coast, was at the forefront of the golfing boom and it remains one of the most sought after destinations in the United States. The five outstanding golf courses form the foundations of the PGA National experience, complemented by a luxury hotel and resort facilities to rival any other.
Still in the golfing spotlight thanks to the PGA Tour’s annual Honda Classic, PGA National ranks highly with the avid golfer due to its almost endless golfing delights, but it ticks boxes away from the course too. Expect excellent and attentive service, sumptuous dining options plus luxurious spa and leisure opportunities.
Golf
PGA National boasts an enviable golfing reputation, with a history dotted with prestigious events, notable winners and no little drama. Five layouts, led by the storied Champion Course, from designers Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom and George Fazio bear testimony to the unique quality of this outstanding Palm Beach Gardens resort.
The Champion Course
The original Tom and George Fazio design was modified by Jack Nicklaus in 1990, but that did not alter the fundamental purpose of The Champion Course – to host major tournament play. Under its belt are the 1983 Ryder Cup, 1987 PGA Championship and numerous Honda Classics; few resorts have anything like as much history, so go, play and enjoy.
The Palmer
Arnie’s contribution to PGA National is a relatively forgiving resort layout, but one that can be extended beyond 7,000 yards. Naturally undulating fairways lead to large greens, with some potentially damaging water hazards.
The Squire
This is George and Tom Fazio’s tribute to the great Gene Sarazen, and adds superb variety to the golfing landscape at PGA National; The Squire is short – no more than 6,500 yards at its longest – and demands accuracy above all else. Dog-leg fairways and small targets are the hallmarks of the much-loved Squire.
The Haig
Yet another of the resort’s layouts to emanate from the pens of Messrs George and Tom Fazio, The Haig is a nod to the great Walter Hagen. This was actually the first course at PGA National to welcome visiting golfers, and is a strong but fair test with no cross water hazards forcing long carries. Two loops of nine add up to a maximum distance of 6,806 yards, and with both halves returning to the clubhouse, this is a popular choice for nine holes.
The Estates
Set in lush, open surroundings, The Estates is the last of the splendid quintet of golf courses at PGA National Resort, and was mapped out by Karl Litten. Expect some long carries into greens over both water and sand, as well as a few more forgiving holes along the way.
Rooms
Comfort above all else is the hallmark of the accommodation offerings at the West Palm Beach resort, where guests will enjoy well appointed guest rooms and suites that provide easy access to all of the main amenities. For added privacy, and particularly suitable for golfing groups, consider the excellent Club Cottages.
